1. Defining your own professional motivations and objectives

  • identifying your key communicative tasks in your professional environment and prioritising these
  • defining your short, mid and long-term professional objectives and identifying the communicative strategies needed to help achieve these.

Your W2W Coach will help you to identify and build on your own strengths and talents, as well as to identify areas for further development in order to equip you as well as possible to reach your professional objectives in your chosen timeframe.

2. Conflict resolution and unblocking interpersonal communication with colleagues or business partners

Every difficult situation in business life has hidden positive aspects - but these are often very hard to see without an independent, external opinion!

Accurately assessing situations that appear at first sight to be highly complex and then identifying the positive facets within these is a key skill which will help you learn from every challenge.

You will find that your personal W2W Coach will enable you to identify and capitalise on the 'silver lining', whether:

  • in conflictive situations with colleagues or business partners:

"How can I work towards my own interests and nevertheless achieve a win-win result? How can I best apply and develop my own communicative skills within this situation?"

  • looking for a new position in your organisation or even a new employer:

"How can I best display my own communicative abilities in a job interview?"

  • in international social situations which could influence your career:

"Which communication strategy should I choose to make the most of this potentially rewarding social situation and to help establish lasting interpersonal relationships?"

3. Communicating your personal development goals to international supervisors

Most of us have felt at one time that we deserve more recognition and support from our supervisor but that we have not been able to communicate this in an effective way. At first sight, doing this in English (or another second language) with an international supervisor seems twice as tricky... Don't worry: we're here to help!

Your W2W Coach will:

  • help you prepare for personal development meetings with your international supervisor
  • coach you how to ask your international supervisor to support you in reaching your personal goals in your profession
  • advise you on how best to complete Personal Development forms and questionnaires.

At most international companies, Personal Development programmes very often involve filling in 'Personnel Appraisal' or 'Personal Assessment' forms and responding appropriately to questions and feedback on your own performance from your international Supervisor.

Your W2W Coach will explain to you the most important intercultural considerations, both verbal and non-verbal, when completing and discussing these forms.

To illustrate this, if your supervisor says to you:

"I'm quite pleased with your progress"

this means two very different things in UK and US English (feel free to call us and find out what the difference is!).
